Greater Boston CISM Team
The Greater Boston CISM Team is a group of specially trained police officers working along side mental health professionals and spiritual leaders to provide support to officers in the Greater Boston area after having experienced a traumatic event or loss. The team is certified in the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation's Group & Individual Training and receives additional training yearly. On a monthly basis, the team debriefs recent activations and conducts training to maintain and improve the services delivered to those in need.
Who We Represent
We represent 14 jurisdictions, 18 departments or agencies, and 3 counties (Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk).
When to Activate CISM
Below is a list frequently referred to as the “TERRIBLE TEN”.
They serve as a guide for incidents that should trigger a CISM Team response.
- Line of duty deaths*
- Suicide of a colleague*
- Serious work-related injury
- Multi-casualty / disaster / terrorism incidents
- Events with a high degree of threat to personnel
- Significant events involving children
- Events in which the victim is known to personnel
- Events with excessive media interest
- Events that are prolonged and end with a negative outcome
- Any significantly powerful, overwhelmingly distressing event
